Why AdBlue contamination is different
AdBlue is a water-based urea solution used by the selective catalytic reduction emissions system. It is stored separately from diesel. In the fuel tank it can contaminate components that were designed only for fuel.
As AdBlue dries it can form crystals. Starting the engine may move the solution beyond the tank into pumps, lines and injectors. Keeping the vehicle off limits circulation while a technician assesses the safest drain and cleaning process.
Can AdBlue be removed at the vehicle?
Mobile attendance is often possible when the vehicle is in a safe and accessible place. The technician assesses how much was added, whether the engine or ignition was used and what work is appropriate for the vehicle.
The contaminated contents are removed and the system is dealt with according to the circumstances. If AdBlue has circulated or the vehicle shows faults, the job may require additional diagnosis or workshop work. The call handler will not make an unsupported guarantee before the vehicle has been assessed.
AdBlue tank mistake or diesel tank mistake?
Putting AdBlue into the diesel tank is different from putting diesel into the AdBlue tank. Tell the technician exactly which filler was used. If you are unsure, describe the filler cap, where it sits and what the dashboard says rather than making an assumption.
Do not add another liquid to try to neutralise or dilute the contamination. Leave the vehicle off and wait for instructions based on the vehicle and the actual mistake.
